Filter Warehouse

There are certain items on your car that you might not think about replacing as necessary. Two of these items are your filters. Your air and oil filters are important to your engine's health and well-being. They are two replaceable parts you'll definitely want to service on schedule.

Air Filters

Any engine that runs by internal combustion of fuel requires air to operate. Without air, specifically oxygen, fuels like gasoline and diesel can't burn and provide the explosive force to power the engine. But not just any air will do. In modern engines, the air must be cleaned before it gets sucked into the air intake plenum and combustion chambers. If not, you run the risk of dust, dirt and debris quickly fouling up the engine, causing poor performance and potentially shortening the life of the vehicle. Foreign particles act as abrasives on the metal parts of an engine, wearing away at engine bearings, piston rings and cylinders.

Air filters allow just the right amount of air into your vehicles engine, while trapping the grit that would do your engine harm. But even the best air filter can withstand only but so much abuse from the outside environment, which is why it is important to know when to change your air filter.

Oil Filters

Your typical oil filter performs a crucially important job for such a small package. A vehicle's oil filter scrubs automotive blood -- engine oil -- of impurities. Specks of dirt and metal shavings act like miniature sandblasters when they float suspended in engine oil. Their abrasive qualities wear down engine bearings, leading to low oil pressure. Over time, an oil filter gets so clogged with impurities that it no longer effectively cleans your oil. The oil filter shields your engine from harm, so be sure to change your oil filter regularly.
